The second Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in the Republic of Korea has begun its activities in Daejeon

On February 18, the Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania, headed by Honorary Consul In-Kyung Hwang, was opened in the South Korean city of Daejeon. This is the second Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in South Korea.

Ambassador of Lithuania in the Republic of Korea H.E. Ričardas Šlepavičius, welcoming the new Honorary Consul, rejoiced that the very energetic and active Mr. Hwang will contribute to the intensifying relations between Lithuania and South Korea with her connections and experience. “We need people who can speak to Koreans about Lithuania in their language and reach their hearts,” said Ambassador. In-Kyung Hwang is a businesswoman, writer, and investor who has developed many successful projects in South Korea and has an exceptionally wide network of contacts.

Daejeon is the fifth largest city in South Korea, famous for its science and research activities. The city is home to many international universities and business innovation organizations. Daejeon is one of the most important centers of science, education, research and high-tech development in South Korea. The Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Daejeon will contribute to the development of business and investment relations, promote academic and scientific exchanges and strengthen Lithuania's cultural visibility in South Korea. The opening of the Honorary Consulate in Daejeon was followed by the concert by the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Čiurlionis Quartet, which continues its tour in South Korea, dedicated to the Day of the Restoration of the Lithuanian State and the 150th birth anniversary of M. K. Čiurlionis.

Until now, there has been one Honorary Consulate in South Korea, in Daegu, established in 2014, headed by Kwang-bum Park.
