TO CELEBRATE THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE BIRTH OF M. K. ČIURLIONIS, A CONCERT DEDICATED TO ČIURLIONIS'S MUSIC WAS HELD IN MONGOLIA

On May 18, in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, the Mongolian National Philharmonic hosted an exclusive evening dedicated to the work of the famous Lithuanian composer.

At the initiative of the Lithuanian Embassy in Korea, in cooperation with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic, the Mongolian Symphony Orchestra, with the guest conductor maestro Robertas Šervenikas, performed M. K. Čiurlionis's overture "Kęstutis”, preludes arranged for the symphony orchestra by composer Arvydas Malcis, and other works. The concert was finalised with M. K. Čiurlionis' symphonic poem "In the Forest".

The audience was delighted to have this opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the Lithuanian musical and artistic genius M. K. Čiurlionis, while listening to music and admiring the paintings shown on the screens.

Ambassador Ričardas Šlepavičius, welcoming the guests, spoke about the creative legacy of M.K. Čiurlionis, the relevance of his ideas in today's world, and his invaluable contribution to the preservation of the Lithuanian national identity, which laid the foundations for the restoration of the independent state of Lithuania. "I am glad that the Mongolian audience, through the inexhaustible work of M. K. Čiurlionis, has the opportunity to touch the worldview, history, and vision of the Lithuanian nation and feel the essence of Lithuanian nature. He was an artist of extraordinary talent and spirit, who created a unique symbiosis of music and art." – said Ambassador.

Maestro Robertas Šervenikas, collaborating with the Mongolian Symphony Orchestra for the first time, revealed that “when working with foreign orchestras that are not deeply familiar with the work of M. K. Čiurlionis, the works of the Lithuanian artistic genius reveal new shades. Musicians discover details that allow for new interpretations, thus enriching the palette of M. K. Čiurlionis’s expression.”

Lithuania and Mongolia will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2026.
